Activities
Westlea Church runs a number of other activities during the year.
They include:
- Partnership Activities
- Support for Partnership wide activities and those of other local churches
- Walks, both local to Swindon and further afield. In previous years we walked as a Partnership amongst the Bluebells in West Woods near Marlborough. Details of Church and Partnership walks in previous years can be found here
- Men's Might, primarily social events for men in and associated with the church. Although activities are often opened up to family and friends.
- Social Activities
- Regular barbecues and "bring and share" meals as well as many other opportunities to share fun and fellowship together.
- Charity Events
- As part of Fairtrade fortnight we had a Fairtrade breakfast which raised money for Swindon Food Bank.
- We also collected 84.3kg of food and additional donations of £117.97 for the Food Bank at last year's Harvest service.
- At the Nativity Service last year, the collection was used to buy alternative gifts chosen by the children from the Tearfund Living Gifts catalogue. The gifts were: a bike for a volunteer to visit 20 sick people a week in Mozambique, 8 ducks to provide eggs and income for families in Cambodia and 8 latrine slabs for families in Uganda!
- We support Christian Aid with their house-to-house collection as we have in previous years. You may have seen adverts on the television, or a red envelope through your door. This year we collected £752.61 from Westlea and Eastleaze - Thank you!
- Our most recent cake sale and auction raised approx £300 (! from cakes!) to help the Swindon Harbour Project cater for refugees in Swindon.
- Details of the charities we regularly support as a Church can be found here.
