Charities
As a church, Westlea Church supports a number of charities. From all income 10% is given to charities nominated by the membership of the church. Two charities are supported for 3-5 years and one charity is chosen on an annual basis.
Currently the charities are:
- Tearfund - Tearfund is a Christian relief and development agency working with a global network of local churches to help eradicate poverty.
- Emerge project - This is a project that has been set up as a partnership between Ncounter and the West Swindon Partnership. Its aim is to provide activities to young people to follow on to the work of the Collective school visits.
- Swindon Harbour Project - Provides support to asylum seekers and refugees living in Swindon.
To encourage the younger members of our church to consider their giving:
- We sponsor a a child, through the Toybox charity. Toybox is a Christian charity committed to providing hope for the most disadvantaged children, young people and their families, principally in Latin America.
We support The Filling Station, a local charity helping the homeless around Swindon, through preparing sandwiches and providing provisions and clothing, which are then distributed.
We support Christian Aid by helping with the annual collection during Christian Aid week in our area.
We support Swindon Food Bank by collections both financial and of provisions.
There are many other charities we support on an adhoc basis including digging wells in Africa, Nursery schools in the Philippines, Christmas Child etc.
